 How to make chicken Tagine with potatoes ?

Chicken tagine with potatoes is a distinctive Moroccan dish consisting of chopped chicken, potato slices, vegetables, green olives and pickled lemons with a distinctive seasoning that adds a wonderful flavor to the dish and is characterized by its delicious shape on the table and its pleasant aroma. Ingredients to make chicken tagine recipe 


  • 1 chopped chicken
  • To season the chicken:
  • 1 tablespoon crushed garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Juice of 1 pickled lemon
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander
  • To season the potatoes:
  • 2 sweet potatoes, cut into quarters
  • salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
  • Juice of half a pickled lemon
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped coriander
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • To prepare the tagine:
  • 2 onions cut into round slices
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons green olives
  • 2 pickled lemons, sliced
  • ½ cup water

How to prepare chicken tagine recipe ?

1) Put the chicken pieces in a bowl and season them with salt, black pepper, turmeric, ginger, garlic, pickled lemon juice, olive oil, coriander and parsley and stir until the spices mix well with the chicken.

2) Cover the bowl and leave it in the refrigerator for 3 hours or overnight, until the chicken absorbs the flavors.

3) Cut the potatoes into quarters, then season them with salt, pepper, turmeric, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, coriander and parsley and stir well.

4) Put spoons of olive oil in the casserole, then arrange the onion slices in it as a first layer and leave it  on a medium to low heat until it heats up and wilts.

5) We put the chicken pieces on top of the onions and put the potato slices between them and distribute the ingredients both green olives and slices of pickled lemon and leave them for a few minutes on the fire.

6) Cover the casserole and put it in the oven on the highest heat for about an hour until the ingredients are cooked, then remove the lid and fry for a few minutes.

7) Remove the casserole from the oven and it is ready to be served.
